do the 3rd gen clutch/brake pedal assy's have a spring return for the clutch?
FYI 4th gen pedal aren't a pure bolt in. They take a lot of swearing, cutting, grinding, blood, time, extra limbs, and patience to put in. More on this when I actually get them in right. As of now I still am considering just installing 3rd gen pedals they I also have for backup purposes ;)

LOL..... I am sorry that you are having trouble with the pedals but I do know that there were some guys that had to hack up their 4th gen pedals to make them work in the 3rd gen car.
The 3rd gen pedals obviously will go right in without modification.

Mine don't have a spring, but I didn't remove them from the car....I got them from someone else...Glad to here something definitive on the 4th gen pedals...I had thought there was a problem with using them, but had heard some say you could, others you couldn't.....i guess with enough time/fabbing anything can be used.. Yeah its important to get the holes drilled right for the slave cylinder....mine was off by a half an inch and i went and stepped on it the first time and bent the pushrod, then the dam thing broke....so anthoer call to Dal got me a new complete set-up....doh...
On your other question there is a way to bleed the cylinder, but I can't remember exactly what the procedure is since mine was pre-bled complete...but its something like hold it vertically while pumping it until the air bubbles come all the way out....Kevin Crain on the 3rd gen mailing list had done this, but I don't have the post anymore

to be a little more descriptive here are the problems with the 4th gen pedals.
1)the 5th bolt the is above the steering column has a bracket that interfers with the support bracing of the dash. I had to make the holes bigger after realising this. Not to big of a problem in hindsight but the way the bracket is mounted to the padal assy sort of weakens that bracket.
2) Cutting off the gas pedal is no biggie.
3) When the clutch pedal is all the way forward in interferes with the bracing of the dash again. Grinding in that area on the bracing is pretty difficult with all the wires around.
4) the support for the clutch MC is attached to the pedal assy which means you have to install the MC first along with the pedal assy, and then the brake booster. Installing the brake booster with the pedals installed is very difficult because the holes in the firewall are pretty tight and the threads like to hang on them. Plus with the insulation and the stress/strain from the clutch MC already having to be fastened (even loosley) makes it almost impossible to install the booster.
The hardest part is seeing where the interference is. That is a pretty tight area to begin with and the insulation make it tugg to see if it is truly interfering in areas. I need to have a friend come over and guide the booster in while I maneuver the pedal assy to get the booster installed.
Also the 3rd gen pedal assy I pulled from the boneyard didn't have a return spring. So I guess they didn't come with them. If I use these the I guess I'll just ream out the 4th gen MV pushrod bushing to fit the 3rd gen pedals. Is that what you guys did? It isn't enough to ruin the bushing from what I can tell.

That sounds like such a pain in the rear. Why not just get some 3rd gen pedals instead?

I'm stubborn ;) Actually I kept on believing all "I need to do is grind this down..." to install them but once I did that something else would rear its head.
The 4th gen pedals look like a better design with the return spring but I'll probably use the 3rd gen pedals.

I decided to use the fourth gen pedals because I'm stubborn. I also found out why I couldn't get my booster in. The upper holes on the 4th gen pedals are smaller than than the studs on the booster. I like the clutch sensor better on the 4th gen and overall the assy is newer (less wear) and stiffer.
