Hey B., i called the guy about my tranny and he is out of town. His wife called him and told him about my problem. He said it sounded like it was a govenor problem. I took it out and found a small spec of metal that had the plunger lodged where it couldnt move. Does this sound right to you? He also said that alot of that metal in the pan could be from the shattered sun shell before the rebuild. He told me to take the govenor out and look at it and if I found the plunger stuck to clean it out and try it again and if it didnt work he would fix it when he got back. You think all the stuff I am seeing in the pan could be from him not cleaning it out good before the rebuild?

Its possible that its left over, but if it is, thats a sign of what kind of work he does. I have seen some of my rebuilds come back 30K miles later for there tranny service (done evey 30K) and there woulnd't be a spec in the pan. If there was a spec of something in the governer and the plunger wouldn't move, then its a good possiblitiy that that was it.

Transmission shifting is based on two things: Vehicle Speed (governer) and Throttle Position (throttle valve). The governer will keep the tranny from shifting at all, whereas the TV will just make it shift real late and hard. I'd clean it all out, put it back together and drive it. See what happens. If it does act up, get out and out and pull hard on the TV Cable a few times and see if it doesn't change anything.

Well before I pulled the tranny back out I tried just that, pulled the tv cable hard and also kinda snatched it back and forth a few times. When I drove it the next time it didnt shift. I was about 1/4 throttle and it would rev up to about 3,500 rpm and no shift. I took it to 5000 rpm and still no shift. Think it is a govenor problem?

Its a good possibilty. When my Throttle valve would stick, it would still shift, even though about 4K and VERY hard. If its not shifting at 5K, then possibly a governer problem.

All that stuff in the pan though is just crazy. When I did Millicans tranny, 6 months later, he broke his "Dollar Tree" band, and when we took it back apart to put a better band in it, his tranny was spotless, and thats in a "potential" 12 second car.

Like I said, I would just clean out the pan, put a new filter in it, clean out the governer, put it all back together, and just hope its was cause he guy was sloppy, and hope you don't run into any problems. If the governer was indeed stuck, then I think cleaning it out and making sure the plunger moves will take care of your problem.

Well did all that. Got it back in the car in under 2 hours. Went to hook up the shifter cable and it was broke, figures. Cant any thing go right? I guess i am going to go to the junkyard tomorrow to try to get another one. Then we shall see if it works.

Well so far so good. I went to the junkyard and picked up a cable for 10 bucks. Came home and put it on and topped of the tranny fluid. It seems to be doing ok. If I dont have anymore problems I am going to change the fluid again maybe in a week or two to see if there is anymore junk in the pan. If all goes well I still want to get the Trans-go kit installed. How much did you say it was again?

It was about $150. It included all the normal fixes and a Vette servo.
