Damn good #'s out of a 305. I had heard of people using those heads on 305's before, but had no personal experience with it. I wonder if he milled the heads to keep from losing compression? (stock 58cc vs. 64cc) And, are they the 350 vortecs? Or the 305 vortec heads? I have seen both versions, and know where there is a pair of 305 vortecs.

I don't know. What you see is what I saw. Still pretty impressive. Makes my 357 feel insignificant :( Thats OK, I got the MPH on him, and soon, I'll be correcting that ET graemlins/devil.gif

thanks! I read a post from that guy on thirdgen.org. That's very impressive. After i get eveyrthing in and running correctly i'll have to see how much a shop in jax will charge for some of that head machine work. BUT i like the sound of this:

"This is approximately equal to 280 flywheel HP and 350 FT/LBS of torque at the flywheel."

My Suburban engine already has 255hp and 355tq. It seems that if i do all the work i can around the engine, (exhaust, suspension, tranny, prom, etc.) I might be able to get some nice numbers out of it in stock form. Obviously his major setback is the fact he has a 305..

13.5 is hardly a setback for a 305.
The Vortec engine is rated w/ the "Vortec" induction as well, so you can't use the advertised numbers as a guidline. The only thing that makes your Vortec engine still a "vortec" is the heads and the wimpy cam, the block is just a regular 350 block.
That 305 used a ZZ4 cam. I didn't catch it, did he use different srprings. Thats they guy you need to get a hold of, since he has a running combo.

This is from the guy:

The heads are 350 Vortec heads that have been machined for screw in studs
and guide plates. You do not need to add screw in studs and guide plates to
run the ZZ-4 cam but I added them because I wanted to. If you used self
centering rocker arms you could use the press in studs. The springs had to
be changed to run the ZZ-4 cam and the valve guides had to be machined to
allow the new springs to fit both in diameter and retainer to guide
interference.

Well, there you go, get that CompCams tool ($40) to machine the seats and guides, slap some springs on there and use the self-aligning rockers that came w/ the head.... :D

So this is on a stock 305 Block(Lo3) right?

The top one was on a 305 block yes. whether or not it was originally a lo3 is a mystery to me.

In his sig it says, "5 speed, 3.45 gears". That leads me to think he has a G92 option car. I think that translates to a 220 HP 305 TPI car. RTeguardless if it was an LO3 or not, it is not going to run like that w/ a TBI on it.

Not the stock GM one at least.....

Hezel<--
That is going to be a sweet little setup, but personally I think that the cc306 cam would work the best and still be street legal. That or the lingenfelter cam, that sucker is supposed to be a smooth idle, but reall wild when in motion.

I've seen a stock 305w/ a 5-speed run 13.8X at about 100 mph. The key for him was dropping the clutch at 4K and running ET streets.

Hate to burst anyone's bubble, but a cc306 is too big for a mild 350 TPI motor. I have a cc306 in my 383 w/ a Mini Ram and it's borderline large by huge. Rick L. had a cc306 in a heavily modified 355 TPI motor, but they altered the specs slightly so that it would work w/ the LT runners.
