Can someone tell me how to check to make sure the MAP sensor is working and what I should be looking for. Sort of like checking the TPS....

Thanks,

Probe the black wire on the connector with a test light to battery voltage. It should light. If not then that wire has a problem. The grey wire should have a 5v reference on it. If you have a scan tool you can jumper the green and grey wire and the MAP voltage should go to over 4V. If it doesn't then the sensor is bad. Not sure this is what you're looking for but HTH.

If it doesn't then the sensor is bad Actually, if you jump them, and the scantool reading doesn't go to 5V, then you either lost your 5V reference, or the signal wire to the ECM is bad and the sensor is probably OK.

It is, but what if you dont have a scan tool, but a handy dandy brand spanking new DVM? smile.gif

You can use a DVOM and take your readings at the PCM. Doing that at the PCM will also help troubleshoot the circuitry.

Ahhhhhhhhhh, OK. I see. If you have a MAP voltage of below .25V and the reading goes to over 4V when you jumper the two wires then you have a "faulty connection or sensor". Sorry.......

Craig, do you not have your service manual on you??

My service manual is for an 89, but the ECM being used is a HALTECH which requires a MAP sensor:)

Thanks for the info

Bernard, YES, please scan that pic for me.....

Have an interesting question about the MAP sensor, can it be mounted in any position?....

I don't think the scale in the book is correct, I think its backwards...

A MAP sensor can be mounted anywhere, and I think any position...
