Finally got my autometer oil pressure gauge hooked up today. I had given up trying to get that plug behind the distributor out, so I had my buddy use his air compressor. Anyways, 18-20 psi at idle. Is this too low?

18-20 psi at hot idle isn't bad for oil pressure. I would be more concerned with oil pressure at cruse speed or at max RPM. A good rule for oil pressure is 10 psi for every 100RPM. So you should have 60 psi at 600 RPM. Hopr this helps.

Ok cool. Sorry for the dumb question. It's around 40psi cruisin down the road. 10psi for every 100rpm???? So I should have 500psi at 5k rpm? tongue.gif

Darn it! I missed up twice in the same post. 10 PSi for evey 1000 RPM so it sould be 60 psi at 6000 RPM. Sorry

They say 10 psi, but I would get nervous when my old old motor (my first one) would go below 15 psi at 700 RPM idle.

If you go with the older chevy numbers, which are still gen one engines. At idle you need over 9-10 and at over 1000 more than 35psi. I think that you should be fine. I have the MEMA books and I will look into it tonight. What year and size of the engine? Manual or Automatic? The book will tell me the psi that is should have.
