just got my 91 bird.
it has a 305 tbi...
i talked to a few speed shops about a new intake
which edlebrock has, but no one seems to have a solution to the stock tbi. i emailed holley, they make one for the trucks but not f-bodies. they said a few people had some luck using them but had to modify some brackets. the speed shops said the carb swap could be done, but hacking the harness and big $$$ were needed. i'm happy with the 305 (for now) but it wont last forever. GM has the replacement 330 hp for around $2200 that will work, but the new intake and some sort of tbi would be needed. I don't know if the stock tbi would do the job.
anyone else upgrade their tbi 305 and with what?
i'm open to suggestions.
Thanks

According to many people you should drop in a 350. Depending on what you want to do the TBI it's ok. I think you wont want to go over 300 Hp with the TBI. If im not mistaken it lacks top end speed.
You can do anything to that engine you can with any other. Cost comes into play when doing anything major.
What are you going to be using the car for, Trasportation, racing, both?
Welcome to the board!

One of the best TBI guys I have talked to on the web is NJSpeeder over at Thirdgen.org His car ran low 14's N/A with the 305 I believe. I'm not a fan of that site, but we won't go there because there are actually a few people there that have helpful info and timeslips to back it up.

The Holley throttle body will work very well on your F-Body. Very little modifications are needed. More info on what exactly has to be done can be found on the TBI board at thirdgen.org. Or you could use a throttle body from a 454. It has two inch bores and will match right up to the 2" Holley intake. Very little mods are needed for this either (as far as making it fit on the engine). From what I have heard and read the stock GM throttle body is only good up to about 250 HP. Which means it can barely support a stock L98. I'd get this Holley. TBI can perform. You just gotta do your research.

the speed shops said the carb swap could be done, but hacking the harness and big $$$ were needed. Hahahaaaa, that sounds like an oxymoron. I thought the reason that people did car swaps cause it was the cheapest way to go.... tongue.gif
If your interested in staying w/ TBI, I think the Edelbrock is teh way to go. I know JPTaylor from this board got some really good time from the TBI setup. Hopefully he'll pop his head in and see this and give some better advice than me

The Holley 670, and the Holley intake IMO is the best way to go. You dont have to modify the holley intake to use either the 670, or a 454 TBI. The Edelbrock only has 1 11/16" (or so) throttle bores while the Holley already has 2" bores. Im useing the Holley intake with my stock TBI for the time being, and the only mod I had to do was lengthen the throttle cable. The Holley intake puts the TBI forward about a 1/2". I just took a piece of flat thin metal, and punched two holes in it. One to bolt to the cable, and the other slides over the throttle arm, and clips back on.
oh and btw a TBI will support over 300hp. Closer to 360, but not that stock POS you have now.
