What are you doing? You wouldn't happen to be the same guy that I know, would you?
Also guys, on sub frames tubular over squared, right? I am also looking at getting a set. smile.gif

well there are TONZ of different kinds of SFC out there as you know..and everybody will pros/cons about each..
BUT overall as a whole.. MOST are good! just depends on what you wanna spend...
I have the SouthSide Machine weld-in's... they are lil heavier than most..but I like them and they have worked very well for me.
I know ppl who have the tubular .. and they are just as nice as well... so find a price you like and go w/ it.. anything on there is going to be better than nothing at all..

I have heard that some subframe connectors are not very good. That they will flex under some conditions. Is this true?

Hmmm...
That I havent heard.... Well let me say this.. IF you get BOLT-ON SFC's yes.. I can see this happening .. as over time the bolt holes enlongate and they will let the car flex.. but weld-in.. I dont see how..unless they are just cheaply made..

I too have the Southside Machine Subframes. Jackability is awsome, fit is great, strenght is wonderfull, and at about $120?? (I don't remember exactly) price is pretty good too. I got mine from summit.

lets not forget it's entirely possible to fabricate a set of your own. But you can't beat $120! :D (i've got to remember those)

OK, so they have gone up since I got mine 2 years ago...
But they are in the brand new Summit Catalog, Page 200, item #SSM1415 $157.39
And yeah, stay away from the "bolt in's". Thats like comparing rubber brake lines to stainless lines.

You can get 2x1.5 inch boxed metal for 20-30 bucks and cut them to fit. Works just as well and saves you 100 bucks ;)

My suggestion is this.....find a GOOD shop which fabricates metal and have a set custom made. I can think of three places around here (NY) that make sub connectors and install them. One place called Lakeside Performance. They custom make the subs to YOUR specs. If you are building one hell of a twister motor like my plans are they will X the frame. I was told a total weight add on of 70lbs. For my T-Top car its well worth that little extra weight. I figure I will drop that much when I ditch the AC and change to the hotchkiss suspension.
Just my 2¢ worth this morning. :D

I don't think that I am going to have an engine that bad a$$, plus I really can't think of a metal shop around here. I know that there are some, but the D/FW area is big enough not to find an airplane for a couple of days!!! j/k I think that is a good idea though. I like the idea of an x-frame.

I'm gonna put in another vote for the SSM subframe connectors, In my opinion they are the best buy for the money. A lot of other brands interfere with your exhaust. These Won't. They form to the floorpan perfectly and are virtually invisible afterwards. Another benefit is they are welded the entire length of the connector to your cars pinch weld-that's a solid install! I've got a t-top car, and you can jack the front corner, and three wheels come off the ground! Go with the SSM's, you won't be sorry.
