View Full Version : MAF again!!!

Every where that I go, I hear about the infamous EGR code. I haven't talked to anybody that has had the MAF code. This morning, Wednesday, I started the car and drove to the corner store. Once I purchased my stuff and walked out the door, I checked the tires and everything. As soon as I started the car, it was running a little rough. I tapped the gas really quick to see if it was going to through the code. Of course, it had to do it on my way to work. POS!!! The engine runs great, everything else is great, but that one stupid sensor is ticking me off. I have already bought a new one before. I have checked my burn-off realy. I have cleared my computer of codes. I am always getting this code at the worst times. Never on saturday when I am working on different things and want it to come on so I can finally fix it.
Anybody have any ideas? I does it mostly when I start it up, usually in the morning. Sometimes when the weather changes, etc. etc. My guess is the only thing I haven't done. Maybe the alternator is putting out enough amps. I know it has the volts, but I am out of ideas. Sorry for the long post.

Have you checked all the wiring?? Sounds like an intermittent short in one of them.

Where at though. It doesn't seem to have a problem and the computer only throws one code, 34. Which is low voltage, or something like that. I have noticed that it is usually when I am just starting my car and when it is hot from sitting in D/FW traffic. It might do it at these times, but it doesn't always do it when at these conditions. This is a really tough one. I think that I am going to change my alt this weekend, since it is under warranty, unless someone has a better idea.
Where should I check the maf wires at, it needs to be plugged in for power and siganls to be sent through it right? How many volts/amps should there be?

i've read up on this problem most suggest to reprogram the ECM to bypass the MAF sensor altogether

I have heard that it doesn't run as well if you are bypassing it. Has anyone else heard that?

you can always reprogram the ecm back to it stock programing but most superchip or after market chip bypass the MAF

I'm assuming that by "bypassing the MAF" you are talking about converting to Speed Density? You can't just bypass it and put nothing in its place...

I know you can do that on the new (LT1/LS1) cars. The problem is that I don't have a MAP sensor for my car to measure the air density. The new LT/LS engines have both of the MAP and MAF sensors. Oh well, I guess I can just live with it for a couple more months. LT1 here I come.
