My mom has been having trouble with her car shutting off when coming to a stop. At first, I was thinking that setting the minimum air on the TB would fix this, but now I'm not so sure. I read that if the VSS is not hooked up that this can cause the same problem. Do any of ya'll know if this is true? If so, is there a way I can eliminate this without buying a VSS from Painless? Additional Info: The car is an 86 Z28 that was converted from carb to SD TPI and has an A4 with 3.42 gears. Thanks!

There is a way you can get your Speed Density computer to comprehend the output of the older style speedo's. You will just need to run a wire from the speedo to your ECM and have the PROM re-burned. Millican remembers better how to do it than I do.

And yes, no speedo input can cause the car to stall.

Mine doesn't have a speedo hooked up and it runs fine. But I did trick it into thinking that it's in park all the time so I don't get a code. At least that is what the painless book said I was doing.

My car ran without the speedo hooked to the ECM, don't know if I had any codes since the motor died before I was able to finalize my TPI swap.
I do know that my car was fast as shit running in limp home mode due to a bad burned prom.

I had to deselect "Mag speed sensor installed" switch in the prom. I don't remember running a wire to the speedo though....it should have already been there because my '86 LG4 had VSS inputs also.

Thanks for all the input ya'll. Maybe I can talk my mom into paying for the stuff I need to do prom burning so I can fix her car. smile.gif

Def file "xxx", remember BT? The one from Canada. Unless someone can find it in hex.
