FWIW JagsThatRun are a bunch of sorry @ss idiots. I called today to see if my order has shipped and he proceeds to tell me he can't get some guy to put the parts together, so he can't ship. He says my order isn't a priority for him. What kind of business is that. If you offer a product, advertise a product, but won't deliver a product to a willing customer, what kind of way to run a business is that? He couldn't even tell me when it would ship (the T56 cable speedo conversion), would not say a few days, a week, a month, never? Plus it pisses me off that their web site advertises a complete setup ready to go with a core exchange, but in reality they tell you what/how to machine and you have to find someone to do it for you. Not very convenient to say the least.

So at this time I'll research swapping to an electronic speedo while maintaining my 165 ECM. I don't want to do a Big Bang Upgrade with a new ECM, new tranny, new VSS/speedo, new clutch/hydraulics, etc. I just want to drive my freekin' car.

So what can happen if you drive your car without a speedo/VSS for the ECM?

thank you and good night.

I kow you dont want to hear this but I got this off Jagsthatrun website:

"Basically, the VSS tells the ECM how fast the vehicle is going. Most people think the VSS is only used for the lock-up torque converter. The VSS is also used to control the EGR valve, the charcoal canister purge valve, the electric cooling fans, idle speed, and air/fuel ratio. This is all explained in the Chevrolet shop manuals."

Craig is right, the VSS plays alot of roles w/ the ECM, but it shouldn't stop you from driving. Sometimes the ECM can get confused and stall, but it should still be driveable.
