I need to know if switching my 305 with a computer controlled carb to a 350 HO conversion engine from chevy high performance parts would keep my 87 Z28 Camero smog legal. Chevy says it will be legal on a Camero with a automatic transmision but does not say if it would be legal on a manual transmision. Is there anyone out there that has done this and could give me some advice.

Legally, it is only carb certified for the auto trany in the Camaro. :(

What's on your side is no one knows the displacement of a SBC by looking at it. You could have a 427 stroker and it would still look like a 305. The secret is getting it to run well and pass the emissions visual and dyno.

Maybe James will stop by. I know there are Cali performance guys out there that can give a more "local" advice on this.

Yeah, the only way that they would know its NOT a 305 is by the casting number on the back of the block, which is virtually impossible to see w/ the motor in the car. So if you can get it to pass the sniffer, you should have no problems. If you do get the conversion kit, don't install the emissions label, since like Mike said, you have a manual. The sticker will say "Auto Trans".

by the way, it's "Camaro" not "Camero" I'm sure it's printed somewhere on the car.
