How much horsepower and torque can a stock 700r4 hold?

Hmmm, I've never had more than the pan, or servo cover off... Must be that weak motor I installed. ;)

If the stock 350 has 230hp and 330ft/lbs then why would the only build that 700R4 for that much? Are you sure the rating isn't higher?

Hear, hear...thats one for the noggin...
I disagree with 700R4 specs that were posted.
It should at least handel about 300HP/350 lbs/trq.
Due to the 1992 Corvette having an LT1 with the 700R4...you never should push the exact HP and Trq. of a tranny's potential...That would tear it apart...! later...

Oh yeah...with a shift kit(s) and new Converter you can achive much higher results fro the 700...
Look at Jet Performance they have a 700R4 with 400HP/480 lbs/trq. That is quite a bit...

I had 380hp / 525ftlbs... needless to say .. it lasted awhile... but sooner or later .. it will die... ;)

HELLO?? SportCoupe was obviously joking.
the 700 doesnt have an "official" horsepower rating, as Horses arent what breaks trannies, it's torque.
I dont know about the earlier models, but the later ones have an "official" torque rating of 400 ft-lbs.

Rick, can you give me a quick rundown of the trannies you have been through and how long they lasted. I have a friend who is shopping for a tranny.

I have also heard of 2.8L V-6's tearing up a 700R4 so who knows.....

The ONLY trannies I used in the camaro until I just did my TH400 swap was the 700R4 .. I have rebuilt 3 times.. so now you can see why I am tired of putting money into it...

Most of the rebuilds last a year or two.. but since I have been adding more hp/tq to it.. its not lasting as long..

I'm going to need to get a new tranny after my engine swap, so I still need some numbers or some web pages. I need to decide on what to get, B can you build me one? I have heard that you are good, how much to handle 450ft/lbs?
