I just had the tranny built for my 92z. I put it in this morning and it worked fine until I went to leave a buddy's house and it wouldnt shift. It still has reverse and pulls in first, but doesnt seem to want to shift into second. It did this same thing earlier but then started shifting normal afterwards. Any ideas on what this might be? I adjusted the t/v cable per book method.

Your Throttle Valve (the thing the TV cable attaches to) is getting stuck. They love acting up after the tranny gets rebuilt.

The fix for that is to install a TransGo Reprogramming kit. Part of the kit is a re-designed valve. With all the overhauls that I have done, every one eventually exhibited this concern. Now I do the Reprogramming kit as standard when I do "side work" transmissions (can't install those kits at the dealer!) and have yet to hear a complaint.

I knew you would know B. As for the transgo kit, a quick question first. I put a B&M kit in about a year ago. It had me drill the seporator plate, leave out some checkballs, shim the accumulators, and some other stuff. What should I do about this? Will the transgo kit have all the stuff needed to replace what is needed? I hate the way the tranny shifts at low throttle. Its so harsh and jerky.
By the way, my name on the old board was 92z28bird87.
Almost forgot which transgo kit should I order?

You can order a new spacer plate from GM. They are only about $15 and will give you a "clean slate" to work with. If you can get the 4 digit code off the tranny (usually stamped above the pan, with a bunch of other numbers) it will ensure the parts guy you get the right one. If you have a '92 Camaro, the first two digits should be: 2F, so the code will be 2F??

As for the reprogramming kit, before I tell you, who is going to install it? This is NOT a DIYer project. I have done a few years of 4L60/4L60-E tranny work, and I must say, the first kit I did kicked my azz. They do have a video, but still not something you want to do in your driveway.

Are you anywhere near Savannah?

Memphis Tn here. Just how much would you charge me to do this and how long would it take? It may be worth me delivering it to you and staying there for a weekend or whatever. I havent found a decent tranny shop in the Memphis area yet. The one good one closed due to the owner dying.

I will install it for $40 which is a smokin azz deal, since the valvebody must come out and apart. Let me call Dana at probuilt, to see if there is anything new w/ the kit, and I'll post it. I'd be glad for you to hang out for a weekend, but it only takes a few hours to do.

And if you have problems finding/getting a spacer plate, let me know. I was able to get millican a GM one for his '86 sport coupe the next day.

I took the pan off to drain the fluid so I could remove the tranny. I was going to just bring you the tranny to do the trans-go install. When I had the pan off i was looking at the tv valve. It doesnt appear to be stuck. I also found, what I believe to be a large amount of metal in the pan. What ya think it could be?

That part of the valve that gets stuck is deeper in the bore than the part that you see. There are really 2-3 valves inside there. Not to mention, it won't appear stuck just by playing with it. Its an intermitant thing, and it has to be under driving conditions. Thats why it seemed to go away for awhile.

Its normal for a little metal, but thats a very small bit. Got a picture?

Dude, I wish I could help you out. You are just to far away, and I'd hate to have you ship it. But I know I could beat a 3 month turn-around!

I feel for you man, can I at least offer to mail you some KY Jelly? :(

Are those big chunks of metal, or just piles of small shavings?

It feels like powder. You really cant feel any chunks or large pieces. It was probably 1/8 inch thick on the magnet. The fluid also had some white streaks in it. I was told this was a type of assembly lube. There was some white grease looking stuff around the servo housing when I first got it back. When i called the guy about the tranny I was told he was out of town for about 2 or 3 weeks. I feel like I am getting the run around. BT what do you charge to build a 700? How long would it take you? I might be willing to ship or drive it down there to you. I am kinda hesitant about going back with the same guy.

Whatcha doin' lookin' at me post counts :D

I could have it done quickly. As for how much I'd charge, don't know, I guess it depends on what it needs.

Lets look at it like it needs everything. What would you charge?
