my LT1 run bad with the MAF unplugged?

Cheesed my airbox this evening and when I pulled back into the garage I noticed the CEL on. Forgot to plug the MAF back in but you couldn't tell at all. Car ran smooth as glass and I even revved it a couple times.

IIRC Bill, someone correct me if I am wrong, the 94'-97' LT1's have both a MAP & a MAF like an LS1. The rely on the MAP below 4K RPM.

Was looking through the impala forum and found a post that says the car will run in an SD mode with it unplugged.

I was just wondering because the Caprice I stripped a couple months back arrived here running like crap. Once I plugged the MAF back in it cleared right up.

Gotta get cracking on my cars slight miss/stumble at slightly off idle. Hoped I lucked into a solution. I need to get the stuff to scan my PCM and all that fun stuff.

The ECM reverts to exclusively using the VE tables for fuel delivery when there's a MAF fault. The engine will still run quite well.

Cool. That lets me know that the parts car most likely had a bad MAP as well.

Just gonna clean my MAF up since it is dirty and continue on.

As long as everything is tuned correctly. In stock trim this shouldn't be a problem, as long as the engine is in good running order. I know my old LT1 was tuned on the MAF first, then MAP so I could use either one. I prefered the MAP since it was a little more forgiving to the cam.

Strange. I'm having a ton of trouble in VE mode getting the engine to idle well. I'm having better luck in MAF mode.
