That's what I plan on doing. I have a scanner, my laptop that displays the speed it thinks I'm going. I was going to at least make sure my ECM sees the right speed.

1)I believe I ground a wire to the VSS.
2)The other wire from the VSS goes to the DD box.
3)The DD box has it's own power and ground.
4)The output on the box goes to the ECM and also to an optional speedo.

The question I have is do I need to connect any other wires to the ECM or speedo, a ground maybe?

I heard of a VSS high and a VSS low. I haven't convinced myself that I am fully aware of what I need to do yet. But the picture is becoming more clear. I will be going to the boneyard to grab some high quality mics. wire. I have never liked the wire at the auto stores, or even at electronic stores.

You should be able to ditch the VSS on the car now that you have the Dakota Digital SGI-5. Just supply a power and ground to the box and along with the ground one signal wire from the VSS sender, the other signal wire to the SIG label on the box. Then you can run one wire from the box to the ECM and the other to the Autometer Speedo when you get it. One thing that is going to be haelpful in calibrating the box is knowing your road speed. If you have a scan tool you can do this now with out the Speedo. This will insure that the ECm is getting the correct value from the box.

Make sense??...
