View Full Version : Got my fuel pump, any suggestions?
Any hints on taking the pump out and putting the new pump in? I didn't imagine the pump would be so small, wow!

Blow off all the dirt that is on top of the tank. Alot of that dirt is small enough to pas through the sock and damage the filter, or it will just stop up the sock and starve the pump, either way, not good.
Also, before you tear it all apart, make a mental note of which way the sock is pointing in relation to the sender's "float".
Thanks Bernard. I was a wondering about that fine layer of dust on top of the tank. I'll definately get rid of it. What about that yellow plug. Any hints on removing that? I've read several post of people breaking the plug trying to remove it. Thanks

Yellow plug? Where? What? Maybe I'm just having a brain fart, but I don't remember a yellow plug
No need to pull the plug on the top of the pump assembly.
Well, lets just say the Walbro instructions and the Helms manual leave much to be desired on nice pictures and explanations of how to swap the pump. I pretty much figured it out myself. Got it in and everything seems okay as far as the pump. I still have no power in the upper RPM band. I cannot get my Holley fuel pump over 15lbs of pressure. I can bury the gage with the Crane but I don't trust the Crane.
And I though I'd fire up the car and all would be well. The FP does seem more steady.
I really need a gage with a hose so I can tape it to the windshield to see what pressure is duing under load.
Oh well, one less thing it can be. Guess I'll just rebuild the car one part at a time.
