yesterday was the first Super Street race at Silver Dollar in the 13 race point series they're having out there this year. it's a 10.90 index class run on a .500 pro tree. it's a pretty neat class and it's a class i've been thinking about running for a few years now. with the 6.0l dialed in now, i can "set it on kill" and run 10.80's in the heat, so running a 10.90 index is perfect.
the day started pretty good. nice breeze, sunny day. had some rain in the forecast, and i kept an eye on facebook and silverdollarraceway.com to see if there was any word of cancellation. at 11:30am there was still no word and we loaded up and headed out.
we got out there a little after 1pm and got the car tech'd. there was a decent amount of cars and we ended up with 13 in the class. i was stoked. we made a test hit and the car ran a 10.94 @ 124 and i had a .009 light. "that'll go rounds" as my dad would say! got back to the pits only for it to start raining...we sat a little while and got back going after the rain quit and they got the track dry. we made two more test hits, both 10.93's, i felt good.
got paired up first round with a vortech supercharged sn95 mustang...and i frickin' redlit :( -.029 on a .500 pro tree. i didn't think the car would react that fast! as soon as my pair went down the track it started raining, again. ugh...we waited another 30 mins and the started back up again. i ran over to the tower and bought back in. not normally a fan of buy-backs, but i was not going to go down without a fight. got paired up with a mid 80's monte carlo, back half car. i cut an .004 and ran a 10.909 with a quick blip of the throttle right before the traps and got the win. the adrenaline rush from the win light took over and i came unglued in the cockpit! i haven't had a round win in a few years and it felt so great. got back up for semi finals and i pulled a mid 80's stock suspension malibu. my .000 light to his .038 light. i had him the whole way down the track. i stabbed the brakes really fast right before the traps as to not break out, and gave him the damn stripe back buy .0003. all in all, it was a great first event of the season. not the greatest of kill stories, but my first money making race(50 bux, lol!), and now i'm hooked. i'll be doing what i can to make it to the remaining 12 races.
