I have a set of month old Jacobs Universal fit 8.5 mm wires. When I installed them I had been in a big hurry, so I got the length close, but not quite right. A couple of weeks ago I purchased additional distributor plug ends, MSD heat shrink tubing and Moroso heat shrink plug wire numbers.

I put all of this together and was quite happy with the results until I was under the hood today. I noticed every one of the shrink tubes at the plug end of the wires have shrunk to the point where they slid off of the fat female part of the plug wire to where they are only covering the wire itself.

Anyone have any experience with this phenomena? How do you get the tubes to stay put? I used a heat gun to originally heat the tubing to where half of the tube was covering the wire and half was covering the fat plug wire end. Additionally, I shrunk the numbers to overlap with the tubing, too.

I always installed them directly on the wires so it could never happen to me like that.

Maybe I wasn't descriptive enough. I thought the purpose was to seal the gap where the plug boot joins the plug wire? That's where I overlapped the shrink tubing. They had to have been 3" long so they nearly covered the entire plug boot with plenty of material overlapping the plug wire.

OIC, I was just talking about the numbers part.

I don't think heat shrink without some sort of adhesive would do a very good job of sealing. Those boots are tight as hell anyway getting on.

They have what I think is adhesive already applied on the inside of the tubing because where they slid off of the plug boot they left a dry, shiney substance.

Also this was MSD shrink tubing made for this application. That's what has got me puzzled.

FWIW, I spoke with the MSD tech line today and they're scratching their collective heads. The only response was maybe there was something on the boots.

Oh well I guess I'll try it again.
