Well at least he is having the same problem as I'am. I have in the 84 the GM "safety Loc" rearend. Now when I was doing my engine swap I also did a little routine maintance and changed my rear carrier oil. I put in 70/90 synthetic blend from Blenzoil products. Now I 90% of the time get a full posi out of a burn but lately I can feel the rearend sort of grab or shudder when I make a slow turn. Is this normal??? I also have gotten a few one wheel peals out of her as well. I was talking to a few other hot rodders about using the synthetic blend and they said I should be fine without adding a posi additive. Were they wrong?
Here are a few picts of my carrier setup. graemlins/hump.gif

You have a "Locker", not a posi. There is a difference. Lockers do not require the use of Limited Slip additive. Posi's are constantly engaged due to pre-load springs, and therefore need a friction modifier to allow clutch slippage while cornering. Lockers are only engaged when there is a 100 RPM difference between the two wheels, and I don't know about the old versions, but the newer Eaton Lockers found it the trucks, will disengage above 20 MPH... Just some food for though...

I know that non have been talked about in this thread yet, but still wanted to throw that in there.

Only cause they don't have clutches but cones. :D
FWIW, I'm not running any modifier in my 9 bolt. Just Redline Lt weight shock-proof.

But don't 9-bolts have Auburns?

SO....when I feel a shudder from the rear end now that I have changed the diff oil is this normal? Am I doing damage by running the synthetic blend oil?
I never got one wheel peal before with the old straight oil in it. Is the oil my problem? I dont have the cash to blow up this rear end and I want to keep my car in top shape. A little help please.
Also how is my locker rear end compaired to a Limited slip? Better?? Worse???

I can't see why synthetic would be bad for it, but it is kinda odd that it doesn't act right immediatly after the change. I'd hate to tell you to dump all that synthetic out, but if it worked fine w/ the old stuff, then maybe thats what you need to do. :(
As for lockers in general, they arn't exactly street rod material, but unless you plan on pushing lots of HP or running slicks, you shouldn't have too much problem.
